Aaron Wheeler wins Analytical Chemistry 2011 Young Innovator Award

TORONTO, ON  - Aaron Wheeler has won the Analytical Chemistry 2011 Young Innovator Award. This award honours exceptional technical advancement and innovation in the field of micro- or nanofluidics early in the investigator’s career. Wheeler’s innovative research explores the relationship between traditional enclosed microchannels and digital microfluidics, in which discrete droplets are manipulated on open devices using electrostatic forces. U of T researchers build an antenna for light

TORONTO, ON – University of Toronto researchers have derived inspiration from the photosynthetic apparatus in plants to engineer a new generation of nanomaterials that control and direct the energy absorbed from light. UofT research suggests female minorities are more affected by racism than sexism

TORONTO, ON – Studies by the University of Toronto’s psychology department suggest that racism may impact some female minority groups more deeply than sexism. "We found that Asian women take racism more personally and find it more depressing than sexism," said lead author and doctoral student Jessica Remedios. “In order to understand the consequences for people who encounter prejudice, we must consider the type of prejudice they are facing,” says Remedios. Shuttle Atlantis to launch with yeast developed by Canadian researchers

TORONTO, ON – When NASA’s final space shuttle mission launches today it will carry four astronauts and some unusual passengers – yeast cell growth experiments developed by Canadian researchers at the University of Toronto’s Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research. TORONTO, ON – A Toronto-based researcher is at the helm of a massive, worldwide study that identifies the top global challenges in mental health. Bloomberg researcher named one of Canada’s Rising Stars in Global Health
