World’s Preeminent Student Trading Competition Returns to the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management

Toron­to, ON – The world’s pre­em­i­nent trad­ing com­pe­ti­tion for uni­ver­si­ty stu­dents returns for its 14th year at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s Rot­man School of Man­age­ment.

The stu­dents, along with their fac­ul­ty advi­sors, from 52 dif­fer­ent uni­ver­si­ties which include teams from Chi­na, Ice­land, India, and South Africa, will par­tic­i­pate in the com­pe­ti­tion which takes place from Feb­ru­ary 23 to 25. A team from the Mas­ter of Finan­cial Engi­neer­ing pro­gram at Baruch Col­lege returns to defend their title while a team from LUISS Uni­ver­si­ty in Italy tries to regain the crown they won in the two pre­vi­ous com­pe­ti­tions.

The com­pe­ti­tion takes place in the Rot­man School’s BMO Finan­cial Group Finance Research and Trad­ing Lab and will uti­lize the Rot­man Inter­ac­tive Trad­er, an order-dri­ven mar­ket sim­u­la­tor, which was devel­oped in-house at the Rot­man School.  Teams will par­tic­i­pate in var­i­ous activ­i­ties includ­ing elec­tron­ic and out­cry trad­ing cas­es, sem­i­nars with indus­try prac­ti­tion­ers, and social events with their fel­low com­peti­tors.

BP is the main spon­sor of the com­pe­ti­tion and will also spon­sor the BP Com­modi­ties Trad­ing Case. Oth­er case spon­sors include Flow Traders, Math­Works, and S&P Glob­al Mar­ket Intel­li­gence. DRW Trad­ing Group is a bronze spon­sor.

The Rot­man School’s BMO Finan­cial Group Finance Research and Trad­ing Lab is designed to pro­mote expe­ri­en­tial learn­ing in the area of finan­cial mar­kets and data. The com­pe­ti­tion cas­es are imple­ment­ed on the high­ly acclaimed Rot­man Inter­ac­tive Trad­er appli­ca­tion, a mar­ket sim­u­la­tion tool being used in over 50 uni­ver­si­ties and finan­cial insti­tu­tions around the world. The Lab is uti­lized by class­es in many of the Rot­man School’s pro­grams includ­ing its Mas­ter of Finance, Mas­ter of Finan­cial Risk Man­age­ment, MBA and Rot­man Com­merce pro­grams.  Fur­ther infor­ma­tion on the lab is avail­able at http://financelab.rotman.utoronto.ca/
