U of T facts and figures for 2010 – 2011

TORONTO, ON – To aid you in your back-to-school cov­er­age, we’ve com­piled a list of the most per­ti­nent facts and fig­ures about the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to for the com­ing school year.

STUDENTS:
The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to is expect­ing a total of 78,676 stu­dents for 2010 – 2011.

Under­grad­u­ate:

The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to is expect­ing 63,531 under­grad­u­ate stu­dents for 2010 – 2011.

  • Domes­tic: 56,248
  • Inter­na­tion­al: 7,283

St. George cam­pus is expect­ing 40,914 under­grad­u­ate stu­dents.
Scar­bor­ough cam­pus is expect­ing 10,423 under­grad­u­ate stu­dents.
Mis­sis­sauga cam­pus is expect­ing  11,296 under­grad­u­ate stu­dents.

*Toron­to School of The­ol­o­gy is expect­ing 898 under­grad­u­ate stu­dents

Grad­u­ate:

The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to is expect­ing 15,145 grad­u­ate stu­dents for 2010 – 2011.

  • Domes­tic: 13,420
  • Inter­na­tion­al: 1,725

St. George cam­pus is expect­ing 14,408 grad­u­ate stu­dents.
Scar­bor­ough cam­pus is expect­ing 66 grad­u­ate stu­dents.
Mis­sis­sauga cam­pus is expect­ing 298 grad­u­ate stu­dents.

Most of our inter­na­tion­al stu­dents come from Chi­na, South Korea, the Unit­ed States, India
and Hong Kong, although we also have a strong inter­na­tion­al stu­dent pop­u­la­tion from Pak­istan, Japan and the Unit­ed King­dom.

FACULTY AND STAFF:

The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to has 15,272 fac­ul­ty and staff mem­bers for 2010 – 2011.

  • Fac­ul­ty: 9,132
  • Staff: 6,140

ALUMNI:

The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to has 489,508 alum­ni around the world.

PROGRAMS:

Under­grad­u­ate:

  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to offers approx­i­mate­ly 600 under­grad­u­ate pro­grams.
  • The under­grad­u­ate pro­grams with the largest enrol­ments typ­i­cal­ly include those in Business/Commerce, Life Sci­ences and Engi­neer­ing. Some of the most pop­u­lar are Man­age­ment, Psy­chol­o­gy, Eng­lish, Biol­o­gy and Human Biol­o­gy.

Grad­u­ate:

  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to offers approx­i­mate­ly 170 grad­u­ate pro­grams. This includes doc­tor­al and master’s pro­grams.
  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to offers approx­i­mate­ly 40 pro­fes­sion­al pro­grams.

TUITION:

DOMESTIC STUDENTS

Under­grad­u­ate Pro­grams:

  • Tuition cost for domes­tic under­grad­u­ate stu­dents ranges from approx­i­mate­ly $5,200 to $11,000, depend­ing on the pro­gram.
  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to has a pol­i­cy that ensures no stu­dent admit­ted to a pro­gram at the uni­ver­si­ty will be unable to enrol or com­plete the pro­gram because they do not have suf­fi­cient funds.

Grad­u­ate Pro­grams (Grad­u­ate Studies/Master’s/PhD/Professional Pro­grams):

  • Tuition cost for domes­tic grad­u­ate stu­dents ranges from approx­i­mate­ly $6,000 to $30,000, depend­ing on the pro­gram. All doc­tor­al stream grad­u­ate pro­grams guar­an­tee finan­cial sup­port for eli­gi­ble grad­u­ate stu­dents. Par­tial fund­ing may be avail­able to grad­u­ate stu­dents in oth­er pro­grams.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Under­grad­u­ate Pro­grams:

  • Tuition cost for inter­na­tion­al under­grad­u­ate stu­dents ranges from approx­i­mate­ly $20,000 to $26,000, depend­ing on the pro­gram.

Grad­u­ate Pro­grams (Grad­u­ate Studies/Master’s/PhD/Professional Pro­grams):

  • Tuition cost for inter­na­tion­al grad­u­ate stu­dents ranges from approx­i­mate­ly $20,000 to $34,000, depend­ing on the pro­gram.

RESIDENCES AND CLUBS:
The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to has more than 400 stu­dent clubs across all three cam­pus­es.

St. George Cam­pus:

  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to at St. George has 10 res­i­dences: sev­en col­lege res­i­dences, 89 Chest­nut, Grad House and Fam­i­ly Hous­ing.
  • The St. George cam­pus is expect­ing 6,156 stu­dents in its 10 res­i­dences for 2010 – 2011.
  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to has a hous­ing guar­an­tee that cov­ers all stu­dents enter­ing their first year.

Scar­bor­ough cam­pus:
The Scar­bor­ough cam­pus is expect­ing 1138 stu­dents in res­i­dence for 2010 – 2011.

Mis­sis­sauga cam­pus:
The Mis­sis­sauga cam­pus is expect­ing 765 stu­dents in res­i­dence for 2010 – 2011.

BUDGET AND COST

  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s oper­at­ing bud­get for 2010 – 2011 is $1.57 bil­lion.
  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s esti­mat­ed eco­nom­ic impact in the GTA is approx­i­mate­ly $5.4 bil­lion.

LIBRARIES:

  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to has 32 libraries.
  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to has more than 18 mil­lion hold­ings.
  • The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to library sys­tem is the third largest in North Amer­i­ca.
