Understanding and Improving Governance, Accountability and Transparency in the Pharmaceutical Sector

Toron­to, ON – The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to and the World Health Orga­ni­za­tion are proud to launch the WHO Col­lab­o­rat­ing Cen­tre for Gov­er­nance, Account­abil­i­ty and Trans­paren­cy for the Phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal Sec­tor with a pol­i­cy work­shop and cel­e­bra­tion at the Leslie Dan Fac­ul­ty of Phar­ma­cy on April 29, 2016 from 12:00 pm — 3:30 pm. This event will tack­le all of the press­ing ques­tions impact­ing good gov­er­nance, account­abil­i­ty, and trans­paren­cy in the phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal sec­tor, includ­ing:

  • How do we rec­on­cile the need for inno­v­a­tive med­i­cines with med­i­cine afford­abil­i­ty?
  • What needs to change to keep med­i­cines mar­ket­ing eth­i­cal?
  • What is already in place to ensure account­abil­i­ty in the phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal sec­tor, and is it work­ing?
  • How can the pub­lic be involved in ensur­ing phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal sec­tor trans­paren­cy?

The work­shop will fea­ture speak­ers from glob­al health and health pol­i­cy devel­op­ment insti­tu­tions, acad­e­mia, and the phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal indus­try, includ­ing:

World Health Orga­ni­za­tion, Trans­paren­cy Inter­na­tion­al, Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to, Inno­v­a­tive Med­i­cines Cana­da, Toron­to Star, St. Michael’s Hos­pi­tal, and Cana­di­an Gener­ics Asso­ci­a­tion
