University of Toronto community to gather in remembrance
November 5, 2012
TORONTO, ON – The University of Toronto’s annual Service of Remembrance on the main campus will take place on Friday, November 9 from 10:20 am to 11 am at the foot of the Soldiers’ Tower at Hart House Circle. The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and Mrs. Ruth Ann Onley will be in attendance.
“We are honoured that the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, who is an alumnus of University of Toronto Scarborough, has chosen to participate and to lay a wreath for the people of Ontario” says David Platt, CD, chair of the Soldiers’ Tower Committee. “Our service takes place this year under a newly renovated tower, restored through the support of alumni and community donors.”
The service will be officiated by Canon W. Ebert Hobbs, a Veteran of the Second World War and member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Faith leaders will include Rabbi Aaron Katchen of Hillel at University of Toronto, and Jiexun (Jacob) Liao of the U of T Multi-Faith Centre. A carillon prelude and postlude will be performed by Michael Hart.
A free public reception in the Great Hall of Hart House, and a children’s reception will follow the service. The Memorial Room in the Soldiers’ Tower will be open to 3 pm.
The University’s annual service is sponsored by the University of Toronto Alumni Association.
