Grand opening of Farmers’ Market brings local produce to community
July 12, 2010
TORONTO, ON — The University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) will now host a weekly Farmers’ Market throughout the summer and fall promoting local fresh produce and sustainability for the benefit of the university and local community. Supported by the Durham Region Culinary Association, the Farmers’ Market will take place every Monday beginning July 12 until October 25, 2010. An official opening ceremony will take place on July 12 at 4:30 pm in the outer parking lot. Everyone is welcome and parking is free.
Vendors from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) will be selling fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, cheese, honey and much more. Through sustainable food production practices, all vendors produce locally grown farm products within Ontario and the GTA.
By hosting the weekly market, UTSC is pleased to promote the benefits of buying local and to provide the greater community with access to locally grown, sustainably-produced, healthy food. Overtime, UTSC will continue to support the market initiative through educational programs with the help of guest professional chefs, nutritionists and the producers of local products and produce. This initiative will link to research, programs and services on campus that investigate the benefits of sustainable farming and good food management.
Join us for the grand opening of Farmers’ Market at UTSC with free raffles, popcorn, prizes and more!
