Faculty of Law to host the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court for a special, free screening of “Prosecutor”

TORONTO, ON — The Pros­e­cu­tor of the Inter­na­tion­al Crim­i­nal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Luis Moreno-Ocam­po, and Cana­di­an diplo­mat Stephen Lewis, will appear at a spe­cial free pub­lic screen­ing of the new doc­u­men­tary Pros­e­cu­tor” on Mon­day, Novem­ber 14th, at the Isabel Bad­er The­atre at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to.  This is the first pub­lic screen­ing of the film, which it is being gen­er­ous­ly spon­sored by the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to Fac­ul­ty of Law, includ­ing its Inter­na­tion­al Human Rights Pro­gram (IHRP).

“We are thrilled to be spon­sor­ing this event,” said Renu Mand­hane, Direc­tor of the IHRP. “It pro­vides a unique oppor­tu­ni­ty for our stu­dents to hear from one of the most promi­nent fig­ures in inter­na­tion­al law today. It is real­ly a once-in-a-life­time oppor­tu­ni­ty to wit­ness two lead­ing world fig­ures speak can­did­ly about law and jus­tice.”

“Pros­e­cu­tor” is a fea­ture doc­u­men­tary that fol­lows Moreno-Ocam­po dur­ing the first year of tri­als at the ICC, and explores the con­tro­ver­sies sur­round­ing the Court and its charis­mat­ic lead pros­e­cu­tor. The film was pro­duced by White Pine Pic­tures and the Nation­al Film Board of Cana­da, with TVO, and was direct­ed by Bar­ry Stevens. Stevens fol­lowed Moreno-Ocam­po to The Hague, New York and through some of Africa’s most dan­ger­ous regions. “We all want to see peo­ple who com­mit geno­cide brought to jus­tice, and our behind-the-scenes film fol­lows Moreno-Ocam­po try­ing to do just that. The Toron­to screen­ing is going to be par­tic­u­lar­ly inter­est­ing; the Ghaddafi war­rants have real­ly put the spot­light on the ICC and Moreno-Ocam­po.”

Fol­low­ing the film, the audi­ence can ask ques­tions in a pan­el dis­cus­sion fea­tur­ing:
