Faculty of Law to host the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court for a special, free screening of “Prosecutor”
November 2, 2011
TORONTO, ON — The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, and Canadian diplomat Stephen Lewis, will appear at a special free public screening of the new documentary “Prosecutor” on Monday, November 14th, at the Isabel Bader Theatre at the University of Toronto. This is the first public screening of the film, which it is being generously sponsored by the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, including its International Human Rights Program (IHRP).
“We are thrilled to be sponsoring this event,” said Renu Mandhane, Director of the IHRP. “It provides a unique opportunity for our students to hear from one of the most prominent figures in international law today. It is really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness two leading world figures speak candidly about law and justice.”
“Prosecutor” is a feature documentary that follows Moreno-Ocampo during the first year of trials at the ICC, and explores the controversies surrounding the Court and its charismatic lead prosecutor. The film was produced by White Pine Pictures and the National Film Board of Canada, with TVO, and was directed by Barry Stevens. Stevens followed Moreno-Ocampo to The Hague, New York and through some of Africa’s most dangerous regions. “We all want to see people who commit genocide brought to justice, and our behind-the-scenes film follows Moreno-Ocampo trying to do just that. The Toronto screening is going to be particularly interesting; the Ghaddafi warrants have really put the spotlight on the ICC and Moreno-Ocampo.”
Following the film, the audience can ask questions in a panel discussion featuring:
Luis Moreno-Ocampo, Stephen Lewis, Renu Mandhane, Director of the International Human Rights Program at the Faculty of Law;
Barry Stevens, Director of “Prosecutor” and Erna Paris, acclaimed author of numerous books on international justice

WHEN: Mon. November 14, 6:30 pm (doors open at 5:45 pm, general seating only)
