New appointments strengthen faculty at UofT’s Rotman School of Management

TORONTO, ON – A total of twelve appoint­ments have been made to the fac­ul­ty at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s Rot­man School of Man­age­ment for the 2011/12 aca­d­e­m­ic year. Appoint­ments have been made in the areas of strate­gic man­age­ment, mar­ket­ing, account­ing, orga­ni­za­tion­al behav­iour and human resources, and finance.

“These appoint­ments will strength­en our teach­ing capa­bil­i­ties in all of the pro­grams we offer and will fur­ther enhance our already out­stand­ing track record in aca­d­e­m­ic research,” says Joel Baum, Pro­fes­sor and Asso­ciate Dean, Fac­ul­ty.

Joshua Gans joins the Rot­man School as the Jef­frey S. Skoll Chair of Tech­ni­cal Inno­va­tion and Entre­pre­neur­ship and a pro­fes­sor of strate­gic man­age­ment. Pre­vi­ous­ly he was at the Mel­bourne Busi­ness School and his teach­ing and research inter­ests include applied game the­o­ry, net­work and dig­i­tal mar­ket strat­e­gy, and the eco­nom­ics of inno­va­tion and sci­ence.

As pre­vi­ous­ly announced, Will Mitchell joins the Rot­man School from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Man­age­ment. He will be a vis­it­ing pro­fes­sor of strate­gic man­age­ment dur­ing the 2011-12 aca­d­e­m­ic year and also hold the Antho­ny S. Fell Chair in New Tech­nolo­gies and Com­mer­cial­iza­tion for the dura­tion of his vis­it. In addi­tion to his exper­tise in health care man­age­ment, Prof. Mitchell stud­ies busi­ness dynam­ics, focus­ing on how busi­ness­es in devel­oped and emerg­ing mar­kets change as the com­pet­i­tive envi­ron­ments change and, in turn, how the busi­ness changes con­tribute to ongo­ing cor­po­rate suc­cess or fail­ure.

Aparna Labroo comes to the Rot­man School from the Booth School of Busi­ness at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Chica­go as a pro­fes­sor of mar­ket­ing and will also hold the Patri­cia C. Elli­son Pro­fes­sor­ship of Mar­ket­ing.  Her research is in the areas of con­sumer deci­sion mak­ing and sub­jec­tive well­be­ing and the roles that below-the-radar feel­ings play in such deci­sions.

Alexan­der Edwards joins the Rot­man School as an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of account­ing. He recent­ly com­plet­ed a PhD from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Wash­ing­ton. His research inter­ests include finan­cial report­ing, tax­es and their effects on busi­ness, and dis­tressed firms.

Redouane Elkha­mi comes to the Rot­man School from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Iowa as an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of finance. His research inter­ests include finan­cial mar­kets and risk man­age­ment.

Jacob Hirsh joins the Rot­man School as an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of orga­ni­za­tion­al behav­ior and human resource man­age­ment. Pre­vi­ous­ly, he was a post-doc­tor­al fel­low at North­west­ern Uni­ver­si­ty. Research inter­ests include emo­tion, self-reg­u­la­tion, and deci­sion-mak­ing, and per­for­mance pre­dic­tion and per­son­nel selec­tion.

Will Hug­gins has been appoint­ed as a Lec­tur­er in Finance. Since 2008, he has been a ses­sion­al lec­tur­er at the Rot­man School.

Michael Khan has been appoint­ed as a Lec­tur­er in Account­ing. Since 2001 he has been a ses­sion­al lec­tur­er.

Foti­ni Tolias has been appoint­ed as a Lec­tur­er in Finance. Since 2009, she has been a ses­sion­al lec­tur­er at the Rot­man School.

In addi­tion, three appoint­ments to the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to Mis­sis­sauga (UTM) and Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to Scar­bor­ough (UTSC), will be cross-appoint­ed to the Rot­man School.

Ambar­ish Chan­dra will be an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of busi­ness eco­nom­ics at UTSC.

Sonia Kang will be an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of orga­ni­za­tion­al behav­iour and human resource man­age­ment at UTM.

Gabor Virag will be an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of busi­ness eco­nom­ics at UTM.
