Health care management expert joins the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management

TORONTO, ON – A high­ly respect­ed expert in health care man­age­ment, Deb­bie Fis­ch­er, has joined the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to’s Rot­man School of Man­age­ment as an Exec­u­tive in Res­i­dence.

Most recent­ly Exec­u­tive Vice Pres­i­dent, Strat­e­gy and Orga­ni­za­tion­al Devel­op­ment at Mount Sinai Hos­pi­tal in Toron­to, Fis­ch­er brings her exper­tise in health care man­age­ment to her new role at the School’s Cen­tre for Health Sec­tor Strat­e­gy which will include the Centre’s activ­i­ties in exec­u­tive edu­ca­tion in the health sec­tor, a spe­cif­ic area of pas­sion of Fischer’s.

A well-round­ed busi­ness exec­u­tive, as a mem­ber of Mount Sinai Hospital’s exec­u­tive lead­er­ship team, Fis­ch­er was respon­si­ble for a broad spec­trum of crit­i­cal areas includ­ing the orga­ni­za­tion­al devel­op­ment, diver­si­ty, diag­nos­tic (lab­o­ra­to­ry and med­ical imag­ing), cor­po­rate plan­ning, com­mu­ni­ca­tions and mar­ket­ing and com­mu­ni­ty part­ner­ship port­fo­lios. Dur­ing her tenure at Mount Sinai, she was also asked to lead a major trans­for­ma­tion ini­tia­tive of the entire Ontario Min­istry of Health and Long-Term Care, com­plet­ed dur­ing her three-year sec­ond­ment to the Min­istry as Assis­tant Deputy Min­is­ter, Tran­si­tion.

Fischer’s pre­vi­ous expe­ri­ence also includes a num­ber of senior posi­tions with inter­na­tion­al pro­fes­sion­al ser­vices firms includ­ing Ernst and Young where she was part of the Health Care and Life Sci­ences Group. She has led inno­v­a­tive trans­for­ma­tions and has a wealth of expe­ri­ence in cor­po­rate strat­e­gy, orga­ni­za­tion­al devel­op­ment and lead­er­ship, restruc­tur­ing, gov­er­nance and change man­age­ment.

Fis­ch­er has a BSc (Neu­ro­bi­ol­o­gy and Com­par­a­tive Phys­i­ol­o­gy) from McGill Uni­ver­si­ty and MHA from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ottawa. She also holds a CHRP and an ICD.D  from the Insti­tute of Cor­po­rate Direc­tors and the Rot­man School.

Since it was launched in 2004, the Rot­man School’s Cen­tre for Health Sec­tor Strat­e­gy, under the lead­er­ship of Prof. Bri­an Gold­en, has devel­oped a research agen­da that is aimed at pro­duc­ing action­able man­age­ment knowl­edge for the health sec­tor and the life sci­ences. The Rot­man School also offers an MBA Major in Health Sec­tor Man­age­ment as well as var­ied Exec­u­tive Pro­grams for health-care pro­fes­sion­als.
