Rotman School of Management’s MBA programs waive GMAT requirement for applicants with CFA level 3 standing

June 21, 2013

TORONTO, ON – In a first for a leading global business school, the Full-Time and Part-Time MBA programs at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management have waived the GMAT test requirement for applicants who have passed all 3 levels of the CFA program.

It is only the latest in a series of innovations in the MBA program admissions process and criteria, including the introduction last year of a “video essay” for Full-Time applicants.

“An increasing number of applicants want to earn both a CFA and an MBA. We understand that taking the GMAT test can be a ‘barrier’ stopping some who have passed all three levels of the CFA program from applying to business school,” says Niki da Silva, who is Director, Recruitment & Admissions, Full-Time MBA, at the Rotman School.

“As one of the leading b‑schools for teaching and research in the area of finance, the pool of CFA candidates is a strong source of talent for Rotman. With this change, we hope to make it easier for this group of qualified candidates to apply to our program,” adds da Silva.

The programs’ rigorous application process including essays, interviews, undergraduate GPA level and, for the Full-Time program the video essay, combined with the content of the CFA exams will give the admissions committees information equivalent to what is learned from a GMAT score. The Rotman School currently waives the GMAT requirement for candidates applying to the University of Toronto’s JD/MBA program who have taken the LSAT test with a score over 165 and for Master of Finance candidates.

The next Rotman MBA classes begin in mid-August for the Morning and Evening Part-time programs and in September for the Full-time program. Applications for this year are still accepted. For more information, visit www.rotman.utoronto.ca/MBA and www.rotman.utoronto.ca/ptmba.
