Joint lecture on the state of the world’s oceans and Canada’s role by Dr. Arthur Hanson and Dr. Jordan Peterson

March 11, 2013

TORONTO, ON – Oceanic life is being decimated at a rapid and ever-increasing rate, in what is arguably the most serious and preventable ongoing environmental catastrophe. An upcoming lecture on this topic featuring two academic experts, Dr. Arthur Hanson and Dr. Jordan Peterson, is taking place at the University of Toronto on March 16.

The lecture – called Poseidon’s Illusion: Challenging the way we see marine sustainability – is sponsored by FIN, a non-profit U of T student-run organization (finsustain.com) devoted to disseminating information about the continuing degradation of oceans and fisheries.

Dr. Arthur Hanson and Dr. Jordan Peterson will each speak for 60 minutes about this issue. Dr. Peterson will contrast the original state of the world (and Canada’s) oceans with its current state. Dr. Hanson will then discuss his extensive experience with oceanic management issues, describing what is currently being done around the world to address the problems associated with fisheries depletion and habitat destruction. A question and answer period will follow.
