Michael Wilson to be installed as U of T Chancellor at fall convocation

TORONTO, ON – The Hon. Michael Wilson will be formally installed as the 33rd Chancellor of the University of Toronto on Monday, November 12. The ceremony will take place at the first of the U of T’s fall Convocation ceremonies, extending through the week, in which more than 4,300 students will graduate.
The University will also confer honorary degrees on Dr. Vandana Shiva, for her work in promoting sustainable agriculture practices around the world, and Dr. Anne Carson, award-winning classicist and poet.
Members of the media are welcome to attend the week’s ceremonies, all of which will be held at Convocation Hall, at 27 King’s College Circle. Media are asked to confirm their attendance in advance by calling U of T media relations at 416–978-0100.
The schedule of convocation ceremonies is as follows:
- Monday, November 12, 2012, 10 a.m.: The Hon. Michael Wilson will be installed as Chancellor and address Convocation; Faculty of Arts & Science ceremony.
- Monday, November 12, 2012, 2:30 p.m.: Dr. Vandana Shiva will receive an honorary degree and address Convocation; OISE and Faculty of Arts & Science ceremony.
- Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 10 a.m.: Professor Arthur Ripstein will address Convocation; School of Graduate Studies and Professional Undergraduate Programs ceremony.
- Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 2:30 p.m.: Dr. Gary Mooney will address Convocation; University of Toronto Mississauga ceremony.
- Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 6:00 p.m. University Professor Emeritus John Kennedy will address Convocation; University of Toronto Scarborough ceremony.
- Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 6:00 p.m.: Mary Jo Haddad will address Convocation; School of Graduate Studies, and Professional Undergraduate Programs ceremony.
- Friday, November 16, 2012, 10 a.m.: Professor Clifford Orwin will address Convocation; School of Graduate Studies, and Faculty of Information ceremony.
- Friday, November 16, 2012, 2:30 p.m.: Dr. Anne Carson will receive an honorary degree and address Convocation; School of Graduate Studies ceremony.
