University of Toronto community to gather in remembrance

TORONTO, ON – The Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s annu­al Ser­vice of Remem­brance on the main cam­pus will take place on Fri­day, Novem­ber 9 from 10:20 am to 11 am at the foot of the Sol­diers’ Tow­er at Hart House Cir­cle. The Hon­ourable David C. Onley, Lieu­tenant Gov­er­nor of Ontario, and Mrs. Ruth Ann Onley will be in atten­dance.

“We are hon­oured that the Lieu­tenant Gov­er­nor of Ontario, who is an alum­nus of Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to Scar­bor­ough, has cho­sen to par­tic­i­pate and to lay a wreath for the peo­ple of Ontario” says David Platt, CD, chair of the Sol­diers’ Tow­er Com­mit­tee. “Our ser­vice takes place this year under a new­ly ren­o­vat­ed tow­er, restored through the sup­port of alum­ni and com­mu­ni­ty donors.”

The ser­vice will be offi­ci­at­ed by Canon W. Ebert Hobbs, a Vet­er­an of the Sec­ond World War and mem­ber of the Roy­al Cana­di­an Legion.  Faith lead­ers will include Rab­bi Aaron Katchen of Hil­lel at Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to, and Jiex­un (Jacob) Liao of the U of T Mul­ti-Faith Cen­tre. A car­il­lon pre­lude and postlude will be per­formed by Michael Hart.

A free pub­lic recep­tion in the Great Hall of Hart House, and a children’s recep­tion will fol­low the ser­vice. The Memo­r­i­al Room in the Sol­diers’ Tow­er will be open to 3 pm.

The University’s annu­al ser­vice is spon­sored by the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to Alum­ni Asso­ci­a­tion.
