University of Toronto honours filmmaker Deepa Mehta

TORONTO, ON – Approx­i­mate­ly 4,400 stu­dents will grad­u­ate from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to at con­vo­ca­tion cer­e­monies tak­ing place from Mon­day Novem­ber 7 to Fri­day Novem­ber 11 in Con­vo­ca­tion Hall, 31 King’s Col­lege Cir­cle.

The Uni­ver­si­ty will also con­fer an hon­orary degree on renowned direc­tor, pro­duc­er and screen­writer Deepa Mehta at a cer­e­mo­ny Mon­day, Novem­ber 7 at 6 pm.

Mehta, whose work includes Bolllywood/Hollywood, one of the top-gross­ing Eng­lish lan­guage films in Cana­di­an his­to­ry as well as the tril­o­gy of films Fire, Earth and the Oscar-nom­i­nat­ed Water is cur­rent­ly com­plet­ing work on a film adap­ta­tion of the Salman Rushdie nov­el, Midnight’s Chil­dren. She will receive an Hon­orary Doc­tor of Laws, hon­oris causa.
