Rotman faculty among business gurus shortlisted for Global Management Awards

TORONTO, ON — The Thinkers50, a rank­ing of glob­al busi­ness thinkers, today announced the short­list­ed nom­i­nees for this year’s awards. Two mem­bers of the fac­ul­ty at the Rot­man School of Man­age­ment at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to are nom­i­nat­ed. Dean Roger Mar­tin is up for two awards in the cat­e­gories of “Break­through Idea” for his devel­op­ment of Inte­gra­tive Think­ing and for the “The Thinkers 50 Book Award” for his recent book, Fix­ing the Game: Bub­bles, Crash­es, and What Cap­i­tal­ism Can Learn from the NFL. Adjunct Pro­fes­sor Don Tap­scott made the short­list as well in two cat­e­gories includ­ing “The Thinkers 50 Book Award” for his recent book, Macrowiki­nomics: Reboot­ing Busi­ness and the World. He is also nom­i­nat­ed for “The Glob­al Vil­lage Award.”

“The Thinkers50 is a cel­e­bra­tion of the very best new man­age­ment think­ing,” says Des Dearlove, who cre­at­ed the Thinkers50 with Stu­art Crain­er in 2001. “We are look­ing for ideas with a poten­tial impact that extends beyond the busi­ness world to address issues rang­ing from reduc­ing pover­ty to build­ing a sus­tain­able mod­el of cap­i­tal­ism.”

The win­ners will be announced at an awards gala in Lon­don, UK on Novem­ber 14. This year, the Thinkers50 is join­ing forces with events organ­is­er Bench­mark for Busi­ness for the first ever Thinkers50 Sum­mit at the Lan­cast­er Hotel in Lon­don to be held on Novem­ber 15.  Har­vard Busi­ness Review is the Thinkers50 2011 media spon­sor.

Devel­oped and owned by Des Dearlove and Stu­art Crain­er, the Thinkers50, a defin­i­tive glob­al rank­ing of man­age­ment thinkers is pub­lished every two years. The 2009 win­ner was CK Pra­ha­l­ad.  The pre­vi­ous win­ners were Michael Porter (2005) and Peter Druck­er (2001 and 2003). The rank­ing is based on vot­ing at the Thinkers50 web­site (www.thinkers50.com), fol­lowed by input from a pan­el of advis­ers led by Stu­art Crain­er and Des Dearlove.
