June 10, 2011

TORONTO, ON — The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE) will host 10 world-renowned education institutions as part of the International Alliance of Leading Education Institutes’ (IALEI) annual meeting and conference next Wednesday, June 15, 2011.

IAELI’s work addresses important educational themes, providing leadership for educational development around the globe, inspiring new research and new practices in education, and making policy recommendations on critical issues.  IALEI includes members from 10 leading education institutes in different countries from around the globe. The current Chair is Julia O’Sullivan, the Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.  OISE is the only Canadian institution.

Each year, the conference features a theme of global interest.  This year’s theme is Mobilizing Research and Knowledge in Education.  Top researchers from member institutions will discuss the ways that universities, as primary producers of education research, can increase their impact on policy and practice in education.  At the conference an international synthesis report, based on perspectives on research in knowledge mobilization from each institution, will be presented along with key recommendations.

Canada Research Chair and former Deputy Minister of Education Professor Ben Levin, a leading expert in knowledge mobilization research from OISE, is the academic coordinator of this event. Professor Sandra Nutley from the University of Edinburgh, an internationally-renowned scholar in the area of mobilizing research and the use of evidence-based policy and practice, is the guest expert.  The event will be attended by academics and administrators from the 10 member institutions, as well as by researchers and education leaders from Ontario and Canada, and senior officials from the World Bank and OECD.
