Can Cyberspace be Secure and Preserved as an Open Commons?

TORONTO, ON — Today, the Cana­da Cen­tre for Glob­al Secu­ri­ty Stud­ies at the Munk School of Glob­al Affairs and the SecDev Group announced details of their con­fer­ence “Secur­ing the Cyber Com­mons: A Glob­al Dia­logue” tak­ing place in Toron­to on March 27–28, spon­sored by the John D. and Cather­ine T. MacArthur Foun­da­tion and Google.

The dia­logue includes an influ­en­tial mix of glob­al lead­ers from gov­ern­ments, civ­il soci­ety, acad­e­mia and pri­vate enter­prise to par­tic­i­pate in a facil­i­tat­ed con­ver­sa­tion about the chal­lenges of secur­ing cyber­space, pro­tect­ing human rights, and pre­serv­ing cyber­space an open com­mons.

Fea­tured speakers/panelists include: Evge­ny Moro­zov, author of the recent­ly released, high­ly acclaimed book titled “The Net Delu­sion: The Dark Side of Inter­net Free­dom”, Jonathan Zit­train, Pro­fes­sor of Law at Har­vard Uni­ver­si­ty and Co-founder of the Berk­man Cen­ter for Inter­net and Soci­ety. jour­nal­ist Misha Glen­ny, author of “McMafia” and Ron Deib­ert (Direc­tor, Cit­i­zen Lab) and Rafal Rohozin­s­ki (SecDev Group), co-authors of the Track­ing Ghost­net and Shad­ows cyber-espi­onage reports.
