Why you should chew gum after surgery, and other recovery tricks

We used to assume that staying in bed and getting lots of rest was the best path to recovery after surgery. Not anymore. We now know that keeping active — as much as possible — is often the best way to a speedy recovery. Instead of lying down, people should start moving as early as they can. Depending on the type of surgery, you can often start by dangling your legs off the edge of the bed the day of your surgery, and sitting up and walking around soon after. Read more.
