Solo drivers get shot at HOT lanes — for a price

On Thurs­day, the provin­cial gov­ern­ment announced details of a pilot project for high-occu­pan­cy toll (HOT) lanes on a 15.5‑km stretch of the QEW, reveal­ing that for a $180 per­mit, soli­tary motorists will be allowed to dri­ve in the car­pool lane. “HOT lanes in gen­er­al are a great idea. This spe­cif­ic imple­men­ta­tion is a good first step,” said Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to trans­porta­tion expert Jonathan Hall. Read more.
