Fish farmers defend sea lice treatment as study warns of wild salmon risk

The province’s salmon farm­ing indus­try said it’s review­ing a new Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to study call­ing for bet­ter co-ordi­na­tion to fight sea lice out­breaks on fish farms. The report emerged at the same time as a Sea Shep­herd Con­ser­va­tion Soci­ety boat makes its way up B.C.’s coast study­ing oth­er fish-borne dis­eases crit­ics argue are being trans­ferred from open-net fish pens into the wild — but which the salmon farm­ers dis­pute.
