500-Million-Year-Old Worm Was an Undersea Architect

Some 500 mil­lion years ago the ocean floor was cov­ered in apart­ment com­plex­es built by pre­his­toric worms. The slen­der, tube­like hous­es mea­sured as tall as a foot-and-a-half and were filled with holes that their res­i­dents used to suck in water and feast on tiny par­ti­cles, accord­ing to a Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to study pub­lished this week.
