University of Toronto President Meric Gertler to speak on relation between the university and the city

TORONTO, ON – In the knowl­edge-based econ­o­my, uni­ver­si­ties are regard­ed as prize com­pet­i­tive assets for cities and regions. Yet rela­tions between the two are often char­ac­ter­ized by ten­sion. Draw­ing on Toron­to as a case study, Dr. Mer­ic Gertler, Pres­i­dent of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to will speak to the Toron­to Region Board of Trade, dis­cussing:

  • The mul­ti-dimen­sion­al rela­tion­ship between uni­ver­si­ties and their host regions
  • How the strate­gic cul­ti­va­tion of this rela­tion­ship can be mutu­al­ly enrich­ing and dri­ve region­al com­pet­i­tive­ness

What: Toron­to Region Board of Trade Dis­tin­guished Speak­er Series speech, “The Uni­ver­si­ty and the City”

Where: Toron­to Region Board of Trade Down­town Cen­tre – 4th floor, 1 First Cana­di­an Place (use 77 Ade­laide St. West entrance)

When: Thurs­day, May 29, 1 p.m. (Dr. Gertler will be avail­able to the media after­wards)
