University of Toronto President Meric Gertler to speak on relation between the university and the city

TORONTO, ON – In the knowledge-based economy, universities are regarded as prize competitive assets for cities and regions. Yet relations between the two are often characterized by tension. Drawing on Toronto as a case study, Dr. Meric Gertler, President of the University of Toronto will speak to the Toronto Region Board of Trade, discussing:

  • The multi-dimensional relationship between universities and their host regions
  • How the strategic cultivation of this relationship can be mutually enriching and drive regional competitiveness

What: Toronto Region Board of Trade Distinguished Speaker Series speech, “The University and the City”

Where: Toronto Region Board of Trade Downtown Centre – 4th floor, 1 First Canadian Place (use 77 Adelaide St. West entrance)

When: Thursday, May 29, 1 p.m. (Dr. Gertler will be available to the media afterwards)
