The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario renews partnership with Rotman School of Management

TORONTO, ON – The Insti­tute of Char­tered Accoun­tants of Ontario has renewed its com­mit­ment to sup­port the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s Rot­man School of Man­age­ment CA/Rotman Cen­tre for Inno­va­tion in Account­ing Edu­ca­tion.

Estab­lished in 2004, the CA/Rotman Cen­tre for Inno­va­tion in Account­ing Edu­ca­tion has tak­en a lead­er­ship role in devel­op­ing inno­v­a­tive pro­fes­sion­al account­ing pro­grams at both the grad­u­ate and under­grad­u­ate lev­els through­out the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to.

Under the lead­er­ship of co-direc­tors, Irene Wiecek and Joan Kitunen, fac­ul­ty mem­bers at the Rot­man School, the Cen­tre sup­ports research into new ways of look­ing at and deliv­er­ing account­ing edu­ca­tion at the uni­ver­si­ty lev­el as well as invest­ing in and enrich­ing exist­ing account­ing cours­es.

”Our rela­tion­ship with the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to and the Rot­man School of Man­age­ment pre-dates the CA/Rotman Cen­tre by many years but today it is stronger than ever thanks to our col­lab­o­ra­tion on this ini­tia­tive,” says Rod Barr, FCA, Pres­i­dent and CEO of the Insti­tute. “Giv­en the sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tions the Cen­tre has made since it was estab­lished in 2004, renew­ing our part­ner­ship is impor­tant and ensures con­tin­ued sup­port for inno­v­a­tive account­ing edu­ca­tion pro­grams that ben­e­fit stu­dents.”

“We are delight­ed the Insti­tute will con­tin­ue to sup­port our efforts to devel­op the future of account­ing edu­ca­tion. The Cen­tre has been able to revi­tal­ize cours­es in pro­grams on all three UofT cam­pus­es, sup­port stu­dent account­ing activ­i­ties and con­duct research in account­ing edu­ca­tion,” say Wiecek and Kitunen.

The Cen­tre will receive $100,000 of annu­al fund­ing through April 2015. The Insti­tute first part­nered with Rot­man in 2004 with a gift of $500,000 to estab­lish the CA /Rotman Cen­tre for Inno­va­tion in Account­ing Edu­ca­tion. The renewed com­mit­ment from the Insti­tute will bring their total sup­port to $1 mil­lion.
