TORONTO, ON – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario has renewed its commitment to support the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management CA/Rotman Centre for Innovation in Accounting Education.
Established in 2004, the CA/Rotman Centre for Innovation in Accounting Education has taken a leadership role in developing innovative professional accounting programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels throughout the University of Toronto.
Under the leadership of co-directors, Irene Wiecek and Joan Kitunen, faculty members at the Rotman School, the Centre supports research into new ways of looking at and delivering accounting education at the university level as well as investing in and enriching existing accounting courses.
”Our relationship with the University of Toronto and the Rotman School of Management pre-dates the CA/Rotman Centre by many years but today it is stronger than ever thanks to our collaboration on this initiative,” says Rod Barr, FCA, President and CEO of the Institute. “Given the significant contributions the Centre has made since it was established in 2004, renewing our partnership is important and ensures continued support for innovative accounting education programs that benefit students.”
“We are delighted the Institute will continue to support our efforts to develop the future of accounting education. The Centre has been able to revitalize courses in programs on all three UofT campuses, support student accounting activities and conduct research in accounting education,” say Wiecek and Kitunen.
The Centre will receive $100,000 of annual funding through April 2015. The Institute first partnered with Rotman in 2004 with a gift of $500,000 to establish the CA /Rotman Centre for Innovation in Accounting Education. The renewed commitment from the Institute will bring their total support to $1 million.
