Rotman School Professor and Former Dean Named as Most Influential Management Thinker in the World

Toron­to, ON – A pro­fes­sor and for­mer Dean of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s Rot­man School of Man­age­ment was named as the num­ber one man­age­ment thinker in the world by Thinkers50, the pre­mier rank­ing of glob­al busi­ness thinkers.

Prof. Roger Mar­tin, the for­mer Dean of the Rot­man School from 1998 to 2012, received the hon­our dur­ing an awards gala in Lon­don, UK last night. A sec­ond Rot­man fac­ul­ty mem­ber, Prof. Richard Flori­da placed 19th on the list of the top fifty man­age­ment thinkers glob­al­ly.

Two fel­lows of the School’s Mar­tin Pros­per­i­ty Insti­tute also made the list with Adam Grant, a pro­fes­sor at the Whar­ton School plac­ing 8th and author Nilofer Mer­chant plac­ing 22nd.

Prof. Mar­tin is the Insti­tute Direc­tor of the Mar­tin Pros­per­i­ty Insti­tute at the Rot­man School where he holds the Premier’s Chair in Pro­duc­tiv­i­ty and Com­pet­i­tive­ness. He is the author of eleven books includ­ing Get­ting Beyond Bet­ter (with Sal­ly Osberg, Har­vard Busi­ness Review Press, 2015), and Play­ing to Win (with AG Lafley, Har­vard Busi­ness Review Press, 2013), which won a best busi­ness book award from Thinkers50 in 2013. His most recent book, Cre­at­ing Great Choic­es, co-authored by Rot­man Adjunct Prof. Jen­nifer Riel, was pub­lished by Har­vard Busi­ness Review Press in Sep­tem­ber. Prof. Mar­tin was also the co-win­ner with Sal­ly Osberg of the Thinkers50 social enter­prise award in 2015.

Richard Flori­da is Cities Direc­tor of the Mar­tin Pros­per­i­ty Insti­tute and Pro­fes­sor of Busi­ness and Cre­ativ­i­ty at the Rot­man School. His research pro­vides unique, data-dri­ven insight into the social, eco­nom­ic and demo­graph­ic fac­tors that dri­ve the 21st cen­tu­ry world econ­o­my. He is the co-founder and edi­tor-at-large of The Atlantic’s City­Lab. He is the author of the best-sell­ing The Rise of the Cre­ative Class. His most recent book, The New Urban Cri­sis,  was pub­lished by Basic Books ear­li­er this year.
