Rotman Faculty and PhD Students Honoured For Research Activities

Toron­to, ON –  Four fac­ul­ty mem­bers at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s Rot­man School of Man­age­ment along with a PhD stu­dent have received hon­ours recent­ly for their achieve­ments in research.

Three Rot­man fac­ul­ty mem­bers were hon­oured by the Soci­ety for Finan­cial Stud­ies at their annu­al con­fer­ence which was held at the Rot­man School in May.

A paper co-authored by Redouane Elka­mhi, an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of finance, and Mike Simutin, an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of finance, was hon­oured as the best paper pub­lished in the Review of Asset Pric­ing Stud­ies. “Man­age­r­i­al Active­ness and Mutu­al Fund Per­for­mance” was pub­lished last year.

Pat Akey, an assis­tant pro­fes­sor of finance at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to Mis­sis­sauga, who is cross-appoint­ed to the Rot­man School, was award­ed the 2016 Ris­ing Schol­ar Award. It is in recog­ni­tion of his paper “Valu­ing Changes in Polit­i­cal Net­works” pub­lished in The Review of Finan­cial Stud­ies in 2015.

Muham­mad Azim, a PhD stu­dent in account­ing, has been award­ed a Louis O. Kel­so Fel­low­ship for research in employ­ee own­er­ship. The fel­low­ships are pre­sent­ed by the Rut­gers Uni­ver­si­ty’s School of Man­age­ment and Labor Rela­tions. Prof. Francesco Bova pre­vi­ous­ly received the fel­low­ship in 2011.

A paper co-authored by Hes­ki Bar-Isaac, a pro­fes­sor of busi­ness eco­nom­ics, has been select­ed as a win­ning paper in the Emer­ald Cita­tions of Excel­lence for 2016. “Rat­ings qual­i­ty over the busi­ness cycle” was pub­lished in the Jour­nal of Finan­cial Eco­nom­ics in 2013.  Each year Emer­ald, a pub­lish­er, hon­ours high­ly cit­ed papers relat­ing to the areas of Busi­ness Man­age­ment, Finance, Account­ing, Eco­nom­ics and Mar­ket­ing.
