Rouge Valley teams up with U of T

Nov. 18, 2014 — Rouge Val­ley Health Sys­tem and the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to have signed a for­mal com­mu­ni­ty affil­i­a­tion agree­ment that will ben­e­fit health pro­fes­sions stu­dents, patients and the com­mu­ni­ty.

The agree­ment between the Rouge Val­ley Health Sys­tem and the Gov­ern­ing Coun­cil of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to for­mal­izes the role the hos­pi­tal will play in the edu­ca­tion of stu­dents in health care and relat­ed pro­grams.

“The uni­ver­si­ty and the hos­pi­tal have a mutu­al inter­est in enhanc­ing the edu­ca­tion of stu­dents in research and evi­dence-based prac­tices, which will ben­e­fit patients in the long term. This agree­ment is an oppor­tu­ni­ty to inte­grate the resources of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to and Rouge Val­ley to pro­vide stu­dents with an excel­lent hos­pi­tal envi­ron­ment, men­tor exper­tise and facil­i­ties to enhance their edu­ca­tion,” says Joan Wide­man, Chair, Board of Direc­tors, Rouge Val­ley Health Sys­tem.

“We are so pleased to wel­come Rouge Val­ley as our newest com­mu­ni­ty affil­i­ate hos­pi­tal,” said Catharine White­side, Vice Provost Rela­tions with Health Care Insti­tu­tions at the Uni­ver­si­ty Of Toron­to Temer­ty Temer­ty Fac­ul­ty of Med­i­cine. “Our stu­dents will have an oppor­tu­ni­ty to work in a tru­ly out­stand­ing com­mu­ni­ty care set­ting along­side skilled and expe­ri­enced men­tors.”

About the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to Health Fac­ul­ties

Rouge Val­ley Health Sys­tem is an excel­lent acute care com­mu­ni­ty hos­pi­tal with many pro­grams, includ­ing 24/7/365 emer­gency, obstet­rics, pae­di­atrics, surgery, men­tal health and region­al car­diac care. Rouge Val­ley con­sists of sev­er­al health sites, includ­ing two com­mu­ni­ty hos­pi­tal cam­pus­es: Rouge Val­ley Cen­te­nary in east Toron­to; and Rouge Val­ley Ajax and Pick­er­ing in west Durham. Togeth­er, a team of physi­cians (147 gen­er­al prac­ti­tion­ers, 340 spe­cial­ists) and 2,822 staff care for a broad spec­trum of health con­di­tions. Work­ing in con­sul­ta­tion and part­ner­ship with com­mu­ni­ty mem­bers, oth­er hos­pi­tals, health­care orga­ni­za­tions, the Cen­tral East Local Health Inte­gra­tion Net­work and the Min­istry of Health and Long-Term Care, Rouge Val­ley con­tin­ues to improve its pro­grams and cater to the needs of the grow­ing com­mu­ni­ties of east Toron­to, Ajax, Pick­er­ing and Whit­by.
