October 17, 2014
TORONTO, ON – A finance professor at the University of Toronto has been elected president of the Northern Finance Association, a Canadian based association of researchers in the field of finance.
Lisa Kramer, an associate professor of finance at the University of Toronto Mississauga’s Institute for Management & Innovation, who is cross-appointed to U of T’s Rotman School of Management, was elected at the NFA’s annual general meeting which was held last month in Ottawa.
The Northern Finance Association has had a quarter century of annual meetings at which finance academics, professionals, and PhD students from throughout North America and around the world gather to hear and present the latest research in all areas of finance.
Prof. Kramer received her PhD in finance from the University of British Columbia and her undergraduate degree in economics and finance (honours) from Simon Fraser University.
She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on behavioural finance and investments at U of T. Her research interests are broadly characterized as the intersection between human psychology and financial economics. Specifically, she studies the way human characteristics such as risk aversion, mood, and emotions play a role in investor decisions and financial markets.
Her work has appeared in top economics, finance, and psychology journals, including the American Economic Review, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Social Psychological and Personality Science. Her research findings have been profiled by the popular media, including the National Post, The Globe and Mail, Canadian Business, The Wall Street Journal, US News and World Report, The Washington Post, The Daily Telegraph, and Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
