U of T professor elected president of Northern Finance Association

TORONTO, ON – A finance pro­fes­sor at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to has been elect­ed pres­i­dent of the North­ern Finance Asso­ci­a­tion, a Cana­di­an based asso­ci­a­tion of researchers in the field of finance.

Lisa Kramer, an asso­ciate pro­fes­sor of finance at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to Mis­sis­sauga’s Insti­tute for Man­age­ment & Inno­va­tion, who is cross-appoint­ed to U of T’s Rot­man School of Man­age­ment, was elect­ed at the NFA’s annu­al gen­er­al meet­ing which was held last month in Ottawa.

The North­ern Finance Asso­ci­a­tion has had a quar­ter cen­tu­ry of annu­al meet­ings at which finance aca­d­e­mics, pro­fes­sion­als, and PhD stu­dents from through­out North Amer­i­ca and around the world gath­er to hear and present the lat­est research in all areas of finance.

Prof. Kramer received her PhD in finance from the Uni­ver­si­ty of British Colum­bia and her under­grad­u­ate degree in eco­nom­ics and finance (hon­ours) from Simon Fras­er Uni­ver­si­ty.

She teach­es under­grad­u­ate and grad­u­ate cours­es on behav­iour­al finance and invest­ments at U of T. Her research inter­ests are broad­ly char­ac­ter­ized as the inter­sec­tion between human psy­chol­o­gy and finan­cial eco­nom­ics. Specif­i­cal­ly, she stud­ies the way human char­ac­ter­is­tics such as risk aver­sion, mood, and emo­tions play a role in investor deci­sions and finan­cial mar­kets.

Her work has appeared in top eco­nom­ics, finance, and psy­chol­o­gy jour­nals, includ­ing the Amer­i­can Eco­nom­ic Review, the Jour­nal of Finan­cial and Quan­ti­ta­tive Analy­sis, and Social Psy­cho­log­i­cal and Per­son­al­i­ty Sci­ence. Her research find­ings have been pro­filed by the pop­u­lar media, includ­ing the Nation­al Post, The Globe and Mail, Cana­di­an Busi­ness, The Wall Street Jour­nal, US News and World Report, The Wash­ing­ton Post, The Dai­ly Tele­graph, and Bloomberg Busi­ness­Week.
