Business Executives Receive Appointments at University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management

Toron­to, ON – Three sea­soned exec­u­tives with expe­ri­ence as entre­pre­neurs and in the finan­cial ser­vices sec­tor have received appoint­ments at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toronto’s Rot­man School of Man­age­ment.

Mitchell Gold­har and David Scrym­geour have been appoint­ed as Adjunct Pro­fes­sors while Jun Yuan has been appoint­ed as an Exec­u­tive in Res­i­dence.

Mitchell Gold­har is the founder of Smart­Cen­tres which devel­oped over 250 shop­ping cen­tres across Cana­da in the past 21 years, includ­ing 175 Wal­mart stores. Recent­ly, he con­vert­ed Smart­Cen­tres into SmartRE­IT and became its largest share­hold­er. SmartRE­IT is one of Canada’s largest real estate invest­ment trusts, with an asset val­ue of approx­i­mate­ly $8.4 Bil­lion. He has taught a pop­u­lar elec­tive in the Rot­man MBA pro­gram on the real estate indus­try and real estate devel­op­ment for more than ten years. He holds a B.A. degree in Polit­i­cal Sci­ence from York Uni­ver­si­ty.

David Scrym­geour, BCom ’79, has served as an Exec­u­tive in Res­i­dence in the Rot­man Com­merce under­grad­u­ate pro­gram since March 2014, where he has sup­port­ed stu­dents in pur­su­ing their entre­pre­neur­ial endeav­ours. In addi­tion, he has taught a fourth year course in Rot­man Com­merce on “The CEO’s Toolk­it. “ After grad­u­at­ing in 1979 from the Com­merce pro­gram at UofT, he worked at Gen­er­al Motors and IBM before embark­ing on his own con­sult­ing and entre­pre­neur­ial projects, which have tak­en him around the world includ­ing Aus­tralia, Britain, the Nether­lands, Ger­many, the Unit­ed States, and across Cana­da. As founder and own­er of an infor­ma­tion man­age­ment com­pa­ny, he was at the van­guard of that industry’s com­put­er­i­za­tion of records man­age­ment. He has also found­ed two skills train­ing busi­ness­es and is cur­rent­ly the major­i­ty share­hold­er of Green Stan­dards Ltd, a com­pa­ny that pro­vides inno­v­a­tive, envi­ron­men­tal­ly pro­gres­sive solu­tions to cor­po­rate waste through the repur­pos­ing of used office equip­ment. He will con­tin­ue to serve as an Exec­u­tive in Res­i­dence in addi­tion to the new appoint­ment.

Dr.  Jun Yuan has been appoint­ed as an Exec­u­tive in Res­i­dence to sup­port the Rot­man School’s pro­grams and ini­tia­tives in the area of risk man­age­ment includ­ing the new Mas­ter of Finan­cial Risk Man­age­ment pro­gram. Cur­rent­ly he is a Direc­tor of Quan­ti­ta­tive Risk Ana­lyt­ics at the Roy­al Bank of Cana­da, lead­ing the team to con­duct risk analy­sis for Cap­i­tal Mar­kets from mar­ket risk to coun­ter­par­ty cred­it risk, as well as CCAR. He cov­ers cross asset class­es of OTC deriv­a­tives rang­ing from Inter­est Rates, FX, and Equi­ty to Cred­it. He holds a PhD in Elec­tri­cal Engi­neer­ing from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Toron­to.
